Unrecipes: Why Not Just Simply Cook?

Schnelles(?) Essen, Hausmannskost mal anders / Fast(?) Food, Home Cooking with a twist

A food blog’s first ingredient?

Instagram- and Pinterest-worthy photos.

Or at least, that’s how it often looks. Next up, inspiring recipes, preferably with the latest superfood craze and following a clear line.

The Comparison Kills Any Desire

I stand aside, glance over at the wonderful cooking online, check out my dirty kitchen, and clearly don’t want to cook.

Let alone want to show anything I’ve concocted.

But, maybe that’s just the reason why fewer and fewer people cook.

Cooking shows have risen to tremendous popularity, food blogs are packed tight like chickens in a factory farm… and people don’t cook at home anymore.

It’s a victory when a frozen convenience food is cooked on the stove. Or was it just put in the microwave or baking oven?

No wonder, then, if I’m a caller in the wild when I preach the proper use of pepper and decry the wrong ways of superficially spreading hot sauce over everything.

Antidote?

Maybe it would help if more of us showed more of our unworthy “What the f*ck am I gonna cook?-creations.

Here are two of my latest:

Roast brats (Rostbratwürstel), fried onions and green chilli with potato puree

Hungarian hot sausage, fried onions and red chilli, with sweet potatoes

A little Eastern Austrian inspiration, quite a bit of Hunan background, strong flavors, quick fixes. And done.
